Comes completely flat packed, like even the headboard and footboard need built. Takes longer to build as a result, but for the price it’s worth the extra effort. Would recommend two people for the job, but I did it alone, however that can be a bit awkward with some tricky bits. Takes a lot of patience building solo, but doable. Brilliant bed, solid well built and very sturdy. I’m a big guy, no problem taking my weight at all. Doesn’t rattle, wobble, shake or move around on its feet at all. Would recommend to anybody.

What an amazing bed at an incredible price. It arrived quickly, although being in two boxes confused delivery as both arrived separately. That said, both boxes arrived on the same day, so that’s a bonus. The product itself is well made, nothing special as such, but materials are good quality. The instructions, once I dug them out, were pretty simple to follow, nothing too complicated – especially if you use a little common sense too.As for putting it together… with an extra pair of hands (you definitely need two people to steady it) the whole thing took 2.5/3 hours – but that was running up and down starts for parts and taking a phone call half way.The only small issue were the mattress support slats, which when spaced out left a gap big enough for my mattress to sink into. Not in a big way, but enough that I woke up aching. However, that is most likely due to the mattress, as the top bunk (single) is fine. I solved the problem easily enough with a hardboard cover over the slats and now it’s fine, and very comfortable.I got this as a space saver for when my daughter is over, so she has the top (single) bunk and loves it.There is also ample space under the bed for the right storage, again helping with space. The whole thing is approximately 4’7″ in height, so the gap between the bitten and top bunk isn’t huge (approximately 2’6″ without the mattress) but this was designed for kids.Over all this is a great bed and worth every penny. And as a final thought, and answering a question that has been popular: the ladder can go either end. The holes are the same on either end, so you’d just need to swing the long slat support bean round – and presto, ladder is at the other end.
Bodge it and scarper! –
Instructions are appalling! The part numbers are so small on the diagram it is impossible to read. Despite having built countless flat pack furniture I made an error and swapped two pieces over which meant that the holes were not in the right place so I used my knowledge and experience and bodged it!!! I should have dismantled the pieces and put it in the right order but at 8.30pm I couldn’t be bothered!Instructions rating = 1 starThe next worse part is building the head and foot boards. The slats aren’t a tight fit in the holes and to my mind these are too short. The only way to be able to assemble these pieces was to push the top section up against the wall and then fit the slats before fitting the bottom section. This bit was really fiddly and took me an hour of grumbling and the odd naughty word! If the slats were about 1/2”’longer and were a tight fit then it would take very little time to assemble. Once this part was completed it took a lot less time to build the rest of the bed.Product quality of the head and foot boards = 2 stars

Three weeks after buying this bed, I am losing the will to live.Every piece of it is self-assembly – including the head and foot boards. The dowels don’t fit properly so have no grip; I assembled the head and foot boards nine times. For the first eight, they fell apart again. For the first seven times, I was laughing. By the eighth, I was crying. This could serve as an excellent test of resilience, giving yourself a score for how many times of it falling apart you manage to laugh before you start crying or swearing or both. Thanks to a mini heatwave, the dowels eventually expanded sufficiently to get a grip (something I myself am still trying and failing to do) so I could screw the sides in. But the war wasn’t over yet…The long sides are each in two pieces, with an oval shape cut in to “allow” you to turn the screw with an allen key so it fits into the barrel bolt. Only there is NOT enough space (even when you use the other side of the allen key). You turn it a millimetre, take the key out, turn it a millimetre again, and so on. Whilst you ponder on the many other things you could be doing with your one wild and precious life. After weeks of exhausting battles with my wooden nemesis, I finally managed to get the outside of the bed frame together and had laid the slats (which the mattress rests on) in perfect alignment ready to screw them in. By this point, I was physically and mentally ready for the knacker’s yard. So I decided to leave that last job till the morning. “A ten minute job and it will all be over and I can contact a therapist and look into reclaiming my life!” I thought, innocently.Sadly, this was not to be.I screwed the slats in on one side, and stepped around the bed to screw them in on the other…Whereupon I knocked the footboard sightly, and the bed rebelled. The side joints bowed, the slats all pinged out of place, and now they no longer reach the sides…I am waiting for the men in white coats, even as we speak. They will take their sweet time coming to get me, but, hey, if there’s one thing this fiasco has taught me, it’s patience. I wonder if I have time to nip to the hardware store and purchase a sledge-hammer to smash this infernal piece of “furniture” to smithereens while I wait for them to get here…
